I’ve posted on the sandbox before, and claimed that I know how to beat it. And I have beaten it before. Really.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t get frustrated and confused and lose a battle now and then, just like everyone else. For instance: How the FRACK is Link Building Blog still sandboxed?
What do I mean by sandboxed? Well, the site doesn’t even rank in the top TWO HUNDRED for a fairly non-competitive term
("link building"), and it’s pretty frackin’ optimized for this term. A few more facts- the site:
- is 7 months old
- has legit deep links from tons of authorities in our niche, including Search Engine Watch, Pandia, Search Engine Blog, Search Engine Roundtable, SEO Book, heck, even the current #1 ranking site for our target term, "link building" (andyhagans.com)
- hasn’t had any active link building done (e.g., directory submissions) that might raise any red flags
And I’ll admit it, all this has me mighty confused. I’ve beaten the sandbox with total crap sites that only had a few trusted links, along with a slew of actively built links from directories, article sites, etc. So how the frack does Link Building Blog get no love from Google?

Quickly looking at your backlinks I don’t see too much from outside of the SEO community. If I remember Rand’s blog had the same problem until he published a report that got picked up in delicious and got links from the outside world.
Now I’m not saying that Google thinks SEO links are untrustworthy but …
you only registered the domain for one year ahead and its a fresh domain. you should’ve registered for at least 3-4 years, and i bet you’d be indexed.
Even in non SEO areas, sites get crazy boxed for doing nothing wrong. I’ve seen sites on orthodontics in small suburbs get boxed and they’re just linked to by the local paper, the AMA and a few other dental organizations – not sure how you’re regularly “beating the box”, Andy, but most people can’t do it…
Besides – we all love to read you anyway!
Well, hang in there. You’re on page 3 for the term when you apply “allinanchor” and “allintitle” (at both G and Big Daddy), and Big Daddy (but not G) shows you on the first page when you apply “allintext.”
It’ll happen.
“you only registered the domain for one year ahead and its a fresh domain. you should’ve registered for at least 3-4 years, and i bet you’d be indexed. ”
He is indexed. And no, all things considered, that would not be the magic bullet for him.
Possibly it is because of this,

I know what your saying Andy, as I have found the magic sauce to beat the box also, though I won’t mention that. I know Google say all the nonsense about letting a site build naturally, blah blah blah, but honestly, they punish us when doing that. They say not to buy, if caught, their algo will punish us… lose lose. I found the best part of the secret is to use a legal link policy, where people just aren’t aloud to link to a site without written consent. If they do, they remove it, or go legal action… it seems to be the only way to keep the sites out of the box when doing the magic linking…
I did a few tests upon sites for this exact reason, allow to naturally link, build links and then use a link legal agreement, and the later seems to be the only way to keep them out so everyone is not linking in and throwing the site into the box on the owners behalf.
A possible suggestion to help you out in future circumstances maybe!!!
Anthony,
Quite honestly, I would NEVER recommend trying to scare people away from linking to you with a legal policy.
Take the links if they’re legit — they’ll send you traffic to make up for Google AND you won’t have to be so dependent on natural search referrals later.
I wonder is my site is in the sandbox.
